It is here at this crossroads that we feel the terrifying prospect of abandonment, failure, and humiliation. It is here in this exact moment when people decide against taking the leap— to avoid that great unknown, that transformative place where nothing is written, nothing is guaranteed, and everything is possible. It is also here where we learn the most about ourselves. Where we can choose to create ourselves, and make who we are and what we do synonymous.

My freshman year creative writing teacher encouraged me to submit to this contest/publishing opportunity. This is my first published piece underneath my real name! "Three Yellow Lights" follows Jorja's encounter with an unrequited lover, Eli, and their night drive through closure.
